A worker on Monday died after he was
hit by a falling tree while working at a road construction site
in the Tuscan city of Pescia near Pistoia.
Firefighters, Carabinieri police and labour inspectors
intervened, investigative sources said.
The incident was the latest in a long spate of fatal workplace
accidents in Italy.
Workplace accident insurance agency INAIL said Friday it had got
1,000 reports of fatal accidents at work in Italy in the first
11 months of last year, a rise of 3.3% on the same period in the
previous year.
There was a drop in cases occurring while working, from 745 to
731, and an increase in those on the way to and from work, from
223 to 269, the agency said.
Compared to 2023, the incidence of deaths on the total number of
employed people was up 2%, the institute said.
